Melyse Renwick’s Journey

From Intern to Sustainability Specialist at Great Lakes Grain

At Great Lakes Grain, some of the best success stories start with a simple opportunity—and grow into meaningful careers in agriculture. For Melyse Renwick, that journey began as a summer student and has grown into a full-time role supporting sustainability initiatives for grain farmers in Ontario.

Melyse first joined the team in 2022 and 2023 as an intern at the Stoney Point branch. From the beginning, she showed a strong interest in agriculture, along with a passion for telling the story of farmers and the important work they do every day. It was clear early on that she was building more than just experience—she was building a future in the industry.

After earning her Associate Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus, Melyse returned in 2024 as a Sustainability Intern. In this role, she continued to expand her knowledge of sustainable agriculture while gaining hands-on experience working with growers and industry partners.

Her commitment to learning didn’t stop there. Melyse went on to continue her education at Olds College in Alberta, pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agribusiness. During her fourth-year co-op in 2025, she rejoined Great Lakes Grain as a Marketing Associate—bringing together her knowledge of agriculture, communication, and sustainability to make a meaningful impact.

That dedication has now come full circle. In January 2026, after completing her degree, Melyse stepped into a full-time role as Sustainability Specialist with Great Lakes Grain.

“Being part of an organization that truly believes in me and gives me opportunities to grow has meant everything,” said Melyse Renwick, Sustainability Specialist at Great Lakes Grain. “From my first internship to now, I’ve always felt supported and encouraged to take on new challenges. I’m proud to be part of a team that’s shaping the future of agriculture.”

Today, she works across all locations, supporting farmer-owners and end users while helping advance sustainable agriculture practices throughout the business.

“Melyse’s journey reflects exactly what we strive for at Great Lakes Grain—creating opportunities for people to grow and succeed in agriculture,” said Matthew van Sintern-Dick, General Manager, Great Lakes Grain. “Her passion, work ethic, and commitment to sustainability are making a real difference for our growers and our organization. We’re incredibly proud of everything she has accomplished.”

Nick Williamson, Director of Strategic Growth & Innovation at AGRIS Co-operative, has worked closely with Melyse throughout her journey and has seen that passion firsthand.

“Melyse started with us as a summer student and has grown into a leader in sustainability at Great Lakes Grain. Watching her development over the past few years—from intern to where she is today—has been incredibly rewarding,” said Williamson. “Her dedication, professionalism, and passion for the industry have stood out every step of the way. The future of sustainability for our growers and customers is in great hands. Congratulations, Melyse—this is well deserved.”

Melyse’s story is a strong example of how Great Lakes Grain supports careers in agriculture—from internships to leadership roles. It’s a journey built on hard work, mentorship, and a shared commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture for the future.
