Crop Tour Will Provide Valuable Insights on 2026 Corn and Soybean Crop Potential
Great Lakes Grain Crop Assessment Tour Helps Growers Measure Yield Potential Across OntarioEvery year, the Great Lakes Grain Crop Assessment Tour brings together agronomy experts from across Ontario to evaluate corn and soybean fields, assess crop development, and estimate yield potential ahead of harvest.
The annual tour combines the expertise of teams from Great Lakes Grain, AGRIS Co-operative, Central Ontario FS, and Embrun Co-op, creating one of the most comprehensive crop assessments in the province. The information gathered helps provide valuable insights for farmers, agricultural retailers, exporters, processors, and other stakeholders throughout the grain supply chain.
Ontario Farmers Value Independent Yield Assessments
For many growers, participating in the Crop Assessment Tour offers an opportunity to compare their own observations with independent field evaluations.
Leigh Irwin, a farmer from Brigden, is looking forward to this year's tour and the chance to gain another perspective on his crop's yield potential.
"Brigden isn't usually included in yield assessment data, so it's great to be recognized through this event," says Irwin.Leigh appreciates seeing how crop conditions in his area compare with the rest of the province. He is also interested in learning how different seed varieties have influenced yield predictions across Ontario this growing season.
Comparing Crop Conditions Across Regions
Weather patterns, soil types, and growing conditions can vary significantly from one region to another. The Crop Assessment Tour helps paint a broader picture of crop performance by collecting data from farms across Ontario.
Wray Perry, a farmer from Tupperville, has participated in previous tours and values the professional insight the assessments provide.
"I'm excited to head out to the Outdoor Farm Show this year in Woodstock to see final yield results across Ontario. I think it's interesting to see how yields differ throughout different regions due to weather conditions, soil types, and other factors," says Perry. This year's tour will be especially meaningful for Wray.
"This year will be extra special to see my own daughter be a part of the Great Lakes Grain Crop Tour Team!"Why the Crop Assessment Tour Matters
The data collected during the Great Lakes Grain Crop Assessment Tour helps deliver timely information on:
- Corn and soybean yield potential
- Crop development stages
- Regional growing conditions
- Agronomic trends across Ontario
- Harvest outlook and market insights
These findings support informed decision-making for farmers and industry partners while providing a valuable snapshot of Ontario's crop potential before harvest begins.
Final Yield Results Announced at Canada's Outdoor Farm Show
