Grain Representative | Glencoe

Great Lakes Grain is looking for a motivated Grain Representative to join our Glencoe team. As the Grain Representative, you will work closely with the Great Lakes Grain and AGRIS teams, effectively purchasing grain and being the administrator, applying elevator loads, managing off-farm and farm-direct contracts with growers. You will be arranging shipments with growers and carriers and working closely with zone grain originators; working with your branch on elevator grain movement to guide the achievement of volume growth and contribute to grain division profitability to create long term value for the organizations. 

What will you be responsible for:

  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience at every interaction. 
  • Proactively purchases grain for delivery into company facilities and direct delivery markets.
  • Provides market information and cash grain bids to patrons aligned to their marketing plans.
  • Provides ongoing information and feedback to the branch manager and grain originators for the purpose of developing effective marketing plans.
  • Works to establish company as the first choice in value-added grain marketing.
  • Reports all grain purchases to the grain merchandisers.
  • Actively works to acquire new business through making regular contact with current and
  • prospective customer through telephone conversations.
  • Maintains and updates customer information and records daily.
  • Supports the marketing and sales efforts of the company through information on
  • prospects, problems, and opportunities.
  • Work with third-party carriers, customers and facility personnel to set the time and location of on-farm and field pick-up purchases.
  • Dispatch third-party carriers to pick up grain both elevator and farm.
  • Ensures the grower is aware of end-user grades and discounts prior to loading.
  • Has an understanding with the grower if the load is downgraded and or rejected what will happen with the load and what discounts will apply.
  • Performs various administrative functions, relating to daily, monthly and year-end checklists and assist in balancing monthly inventories.
Requirements for this position: 
  • Requires a university or college degree or equivalent years of experience preferably in agriculture, or agri-business.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with agriculture, grain marketing, sale and origination an asset.
  • Demonstrated organizational and logic capabilities.
  • Travel as required to support farm owner and branch needs.
