Great Lakes Grain non-EU corn varieties statement

April 20, 2020

Dear corn producer,

Great Lakes Grain fully supports the latest genetic technology and the seed industry bringing new technologies to the marketplace. We need to ensure we have a market place. There are a number of varieties that are not approved for sale in the European Union (EU). When varieties are not approved for such an important market as the EU, we must proceed with caution and ensure the products we are merchandising can be marketed in all markets. Everyone is part of the value chain and we must ensure our markets remain strong through these unprecedented times. A great deal of our corn enters local markets that their byproducts may enter the EU.  These local markets are impacted as well.

Great Lakes Grain has not knowingly been accepting non-EU approved varieties for years. We want to be clear that this year is no different. We need to ensure that our corn market remains strong and vibrant for years to come. Our EU market is more important today than ever before. Please do the right thing and ensure the variety you are planting can be marketed around the world.

If you have any questions please contact me.

Thank You
